You Cant Choose Your Family

Family
What are they for
But for the birth of you
Nurture and hold your vulnerability
mould your sponge mind in infancy
Imprint their beliefs onto you
You don't know any better but to trust
You don't know any better but to believe their version of what love is
and so you just grow

What is family for
But to teach you their version of living
Protect your inherited short falls from falling short in the real world
To stand up for you when other people sit down in horror at your behaviour
So foreign is your way, your family's way
But you don't see it, the ego blinds you

What is family for
But to push you on your way as you stumble out the nest
Cheer you on as you make your way into the world, lest
a world that holds a different version of life from what you were taught

What is family for
But to return to after your exploring
Comparison and confusion rife in your mind,
of how you see others behaving
of how you struggle to live through each day
when holding on so tightly to your family's way
when you start seeing the cracks of perception, the deceit

What is family for
But to break your love by their actions
Watching their smiling faces
Discover the trust misplaced
As the one member tells you of the other,
Secrets, lies, deceiving
back stabbing
Tea Time bashing
You are in the hot seat until another member replaces you,
you, the entertainment to their dull egos

What is family for
but to make you and then break you
Separate you from the beliefs they gave you

What are families for
But to birth you again
Your second coming
of Concious Awareness
Not taking anything at face value nor anything for granted
Compassion for their sleepiness
Loving them for the gift of life their egos grant you.
